Production diary - week 1

This week, I have set up my new blog for my A2 coursework. I have decided to start on the research section of my coursework first as I am still yet to think of an idea on what kind of music video I want to do, along with ideas on the song I will be using. Starting off with the research will be very helpful with giving me ideas. The first weekly research post I have completed was the history of music videos. I had to look up a timeline for the evolution of the music video and how it all began through to how it has dramatically developed differently over time. This is useful as has given me a closer look to music videos and its importance. The second piece of research I had completed during this week in class, is the conventions of a music video. This was completed using iMovie so that I have a range of ways that I present my work. I had taken an existing music video to include in the background so that you are able to explore the different conventions along with witnessing how it is displayed in an actual music video. I used the video for paramore because it is a typical music video which had included all of the aspects of conventions. This is helpful because it has made me acknowledge the different conventions that I should be considering when it comes to creating my own music video. These conventions include factors such as props, mis-en-scene, costumes and lighting (only to name a few). Lastly during class this week, I have completed one last research piece which is to look at existing music labels. I used websites such as Wikipedia to help me carry out this research and the music label’s actual websites. This will help me to identify the different genres of music and labels which they belong to. Also how the success of these labels give an advantage to its artists.
