influences of music style

I have done research on what has influenced the different genres of music in the music industry. I have looked at only 4 different genres out of many which include: pop, rock, alternative and R&B because I believe are the most known and popular genres that I may want my music video to use. Using this research, it will be helpful when it comes to creating my own music video. This is because I can have an idea on what music style I will use for my video and the content that I may want to include in my video that will link in to the music style that I have chosen. Also, when it comes to the evaluation stage of my video, I will be able to talk about what has influenced me to have chosen the genre for the song on my video.

Analysis of a music video

This is an analysis of a typical music video which is set out similar to my conventions of a music video post. However this post talks more about the narrative and what the audience is able to see from it including shots as well. I thought I would make it a bit more different from the conventions post as I have already talked about the different conventions. This time, I wanted to analyse the music video more into the audience's perspective and what they can see from it. This will help me with the production of my own music video because it has enabled me to think more of the asthetic aspect of the music video and how I would want the audience to understand it through its narrative and also the different shots that I will be using for my own video and how particular ones I will choose will be effective.

mag ad planning

this is the template of how the advertisement for my album will look like. I have created just a brief idea on how it would look like as I will fill it in and do it properly as soon as I have the images and actual idea for my music video. Then once I do, I will be able to match the aspects of it to my what my actual music video will be like.

In this lesson I  have completed a task from the planning evidence section of my coursework. I have completed the props list where I have used a powerpoint to demonstrate the different props that I will be using for my music video. I have taken images from google to show how I would want the props to look like. I have also seperated the props into two sections as my music video will have two different sides to it, scenes including positive images and the other showing negative. Therefore I have seperated the two into two slides so that it is easier to establish the props I will be using for each scene.

Production diary - week 1

This week, I have set up my new blog for my A2 coursework. I have decided to start on the research section of my coursework first as I am still yet to think of an idea on what kind of music video I want to do, along with ideas on the song I will be using. Starting off with the research will be very helpful with giving me ideas. The first weekly research post I have completed was the history of music videos. I had to look up a timeline for the evolution of the music video and how it all began through to how it has dramatically developed differently over time. This is useful as has given me a closer look to music videos and its importance. The second piece of research I had completed during this week in class, is the conventions of a music video. This was completed using iMovie so that I have a range of ways that I present my work. I had taken an existing music video to include in the background so that you are able to explore the different conventions along with witnessing how it is displayed in an actual music video. I used the video for paramore because it is a typical music video which had included all of the aspects of conventions. This is helpful because it has made me acknowledge the different conventions that I should be considering when it comes to creating my own music video. These conventions include factors such as props, mis-en-scene, costumes and lighting (only to name a few). Lastly during class this week, I have completed one last research piece which is to look at existing music labels. I used websites such as Wikipedia to help me carry out this research and the music label’s actual websites. This will help me to identify the different genres of music and labels which they belong to. Also how the success of these labels give an advantage to its artists.
